This course, aims to enhance understanding and respect for Indigenous Australians by exploring cultural practices, values, and protocols. Participants will gain insight into Indigenous ceremonies, storytelling, and the diversity of customs across Australia’s regions, enabling them to engage more meaningfully with Indigenous job seekers.
The course delves into the shared core values that underpin Indigenous communities, such as connection to the land, respect for Elders, and the importance of family and community. Participants will learn how to navigate local customs and protocols, building skills to offer more culturally sensitive support.
It also examines the adaptation and resilience of Indigenous traditions in modern society and addresses the challenges these communities face, from urbanisation to the influence of mainstream media. Practical guidance is provided on consulting with Indigenous leaders, respecting traditional structures, and avoiding assumptions.
Through scenario-based activities, reflection questions, and interactive elements, this course equips employment service providers with the cultural awareness needed to build respectful relationships. Ultimately, it supports a more inclusive approach to employment pathways, honouring the unique identities and needs of Indigenous Australians.
